It bolts to the back side of the rear Fabtech crossmember. Use the supplied 1/2″ x 2.75″ bolt, nut, and washers on the center mount of the rack and pinion assembly. Do not tighten yet.
Locate the zip-loc bag labeled ‘POWER STEERING RACK’ and reuse the large factory washer for the driver side mount. The driver side mount will need a spacer installed between the rack and pinion assembly and the crossmember. This spacer is supplied with the kit. It looks like a 3/4″ thick washer.
The passenger side mount will also need a spacer installed between the rack and pinion assembly and the crossmember. This spacer is supplied with the kit. It’s a 2″ thick block of aluminum. Install it with the supplied 5/16″ x 2″ nuts, bolts, and washers.
Note: The passenger side C-style bracket must be installed with the longer sleeve on the bottom.
Before the rack and pinion assembly can bolt in place on the driver side, a hose clamp must be adjusted. Locate the hose clamp fitting on the pressure line of the rack and pinion assembly. You will need to rotate it inward to avoid interference with the crossmember. This picture is taken from the front of the truck. If you adjust it from this position, the clamp needs to be rotated ccw to the 10 o’clock position.
You’ll most likely have the easiest access at it when you’re under the truck looking forward and if so it will need to be rotated cw to the 2 o’clock position. After rotating the hose clamp, locate the three-foot piece of split wire loom. Cut a 12″ section and wrap it around the hose closest to the edge of the crossmember. This will help prevent the hose from chafing caused by vehicle vibrations.
After the rack is installed, it will look very crooked. It will not run parallel to the crossmember. This is normal.
